Another Classic Bow...Black Locust D Bow
« on: May 10, 2012, 05:29:30 pm »
Sooooooo....you guys sick of me posting all these bows yet?

This staves life spent who knows how many years in an Indiana barn destined to be a fence post. It was rescued by Osage Outlaw, and then was traded along with another piece of locust and a piece of elm for some HHB down at the Tennesse Classic last weekend. I decided to work on it (my third bow) while i was down there seeing how it was def well seasoned. I had this one all the way to a good floor tiller, and wood have finished it up sat afternoon if we didnt have to leave earlier than expected. There wasnt much the wood was giving me,but i made due and let her out of her cocoon. She actually turned out way better than i expected and hammers my heavy arrows really well for a D bow. Shes 60 pounds..62"ntn.....only 1 5/16" wide at the fades to skinny jicarillo tip overlays(which look sexy with locust),and it has two knot holes in it(geez the last 3 in a row ive made have holes in em),and i had to sinew wrap two areas that had natural run off cracks.

The first picture is all for you Clint  :P  >:D.....thanks for the trade buddy,i like this one,and see ya next year

very nice!  I got a Black Locust coming out in a week or so.. Hopefully if I didn't jinx it just now. ::)
Yours looks as if it was pretty difficult with the knots and such.  Mine is pretty clean.  Hope it turns out half as cool as yours.  Keep em coming! :D

Nice! Stands quite straight for a plain ol' piece of wood with no temper.

a clever bit of woodworking there, I admire you guys who can make bows out of those knotty pieces of wood

Good looking bow, sir. I'll be glad when I get confident enough to tackle staves with knot in em.

That looks like a fine future bowyer you got there, too.

thanks everybody  ;D....this was a mess of a stave to start with as well,it was twisted exactly 90 degrees from end to end and the string was off center by a couple inches. i wrangled her into submission and lightly tempered it all in one session at once.

hope to see ya at next years classic raghorns

cant wait to see your locust creation josh...i love black locust.....difficult?....na ;)

lesken..id be more than happy to see my lil baby girl whittle on wood  ;D

ya all who havent been to the classic need to go,even if its just to watch some of the best master bowyers build, but im sure they wood rather have you build alongside them than watch ;) it was so cool to see sooooo many pieces of wood being released from there encased shell. there was a ton of talented bowyering going on(not that i was doing any)

That thing turned out sweet.  I can't believe you were able to make such a nice bow out of that thing.  It was fun watching you build that one.  I guess I'll try to rescue the rest of the fence posts.  Who-Dey  >:D
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Nice job!  I wish I had made it to the Classic.  My weekend wasn't nearly as productive (or fun).
