I have a hickory stave from a large diameter tree and its all sap wood, I have been wanting to replicate a bow from Volume 18 issue 4 of P.A. Treasures of the Smithsonian, the Yankton Sioux bow. It wont be an exact but pretty close, my question is; not having worked with the sap wood before how will it hold up in tension and compression? I plan on putting four to five layers of sinew on it.
Also has anybody tried replicating bows from those articles before and if so any pics?
