Yew with crack

If some of you guys remember I posted a bow on here that had a crack in the wood. Some guys replied with "sorry about your luck"
while others gave me some helpful information. So I went by Gordon and another fellow that said to glue the crack and wrap it with sinew. So that is what I did and this is what I came up with. It is a 63.5 inch nock to nock. I was actually going to do a hunting bow but with the crack I was thinking if I narrowed the limbs down I might be able to get rid of the crack which did not happen. The profile of the bow comes from the measurements of Saxton Pope's bow. It is an inch and a quarter at the handle, inch and quarter at the fade outs for 12 in, and tapers into an inch and an eighth and out to half inch nocks. It is 53 lbs at 25 inches. 6 inch brace. Handle wrapped in artificial sinew. It has four baby rattler skins on it which worked out perfect for this. This is a bow style that I really love shooting. It has a little bit of hand shock in it. But I think this is something I might continue on making this profile of bow.

Great job, glad it was able to be made into a bow.

I almost didn't read this post because I thought it was a failure story. I am so glad I decided to read it. It turned out to be a great success story. Nice job on that bow, for sure!!

Nice bow blacktail. Those skins are sharp. Young snakes always have the best patterns.
Was that crack running on a plane parallel to the back or perpendicular. I have a yew stave that is beautiful except for a couple of wind shake separations. I keep going back to it, though I am doubtful it can live with wind shake like that.

Nice work and a slap on the back for sticking with it. I love reading about someone producing a good shooter in spite of flaws.
Well done.

Man that looks awesome! Can you post another pic or two of the back? I'd love to see how the splice on the skins turned out
