Good Friday
« on: April 15, 2012, 11:24:56 pm »
I had Good Friday off work and decided to start a new bow. I grabbed what I thought was a fairly clean stave..........then I got the bark and sapwood off. Two knot holes through, one in each limb. Then each limb has a super glue soaked rotten knot that didnt quite poke through the back. And to top it off an undulating crazy back. Its rock solid wood and the build turned out to be a quicky. I peeled bark, chased a ring and roughed the bow to a good floor tiller on Good Friday morning, then set it aside. I tillered it out and shot it in this weekend. Im leaving it as is. I will just seal it up and shoot off my knuckle. Its 60" ntn, roughly 1 1/8" wide and 50# @ 27". I made an 8 strand D10 string, padded to 12 strands at the loops. It sure quiets it down, speeds it way up and dampens it considerably. No silencers needed whatsoever.

The dog may not be impressed but I sure am!  I am amazed at how fast you experienced guys can turn a bow out.  I have been messing around with one for over a month and I hope mine turns out that good.

Hey, PD. I've been out of archery so long, I still use B-50 for my strings. What is D-10?

D10 is the better version of D97. Its smaller and much stronger and wear resistant.

D-10 is a fast flight string. If you pad the loops it will not cut your tips.
3Rivers has it for $23.50 for 1/8th pound.( I know this cause Pearlie told me.)
