Bitter cherry

Found some bitter cherry while I was out messing around. Does anybody have any experience with this stuff? The bark is this really cool metallic red, and I'd love to leave the bark on if it's not going to crack.

Nw bitter cherry will make a bow, BUT it is somewhat brittle(I would back it). depending of how many lbs you are looking for I would go for a pyramid shape bow 1 3/4 wide down to 1/2 tips. over 60lbs 2 inch wide. It can tend to Crystal on you if not  carefull.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the bark can be left on?

Bummer, it's such great looking bark. I suppose I could try to get it off in one piece & glue it back on, as you say. Doesn't sound like its a particularly exceptional wood though, so maybe it's not really worth the time. I was hoping that it was more like domestic cherry. Some of the cherry bows posted on here recently just make me salivate like pavlovs dog.
