3 months later my first bow is finally done!

3 months later my first bow is done. Bow building is so much fun. i love it.  i cant wait to start my next one.
the epoxy fixed the handle.

the bow is red oak with a walnut stain and drywall tape backing. i thought the backing would be ugly but the paint helped.

the bow is 41#@28"

the full draw is pic is bad  my mom didnt get the whole bow. so another will be on sometime.

the tiller on the finished bow looks worse than it did while i was was making it, but im still happy its only my first one.

the string is also my first one.

The tiller looks pretty good to me also. A bit stiff on the outside ends of the limbs but I have seen other bows tillered that way. Good work David! ;) A bow you can be proud of.
   I was more than pleased to send the string and materials along with the DVD. I knew you could figure it out. Bow building(et al) is fun. Keep up the good work.     Pat

thanks for the compliments. i love bow building my next bow i think will be osage.

the deft had finish cracks in it so next time i think ill use a oil finish.

thanks for everything Pat it helped alot.

can't wait to start the next one but the work will be slow because of school.

david, my first bow was a lot lot like yours, red oak board from home depot with sheetrock backing.  the main difference between our bows is, your handle and rest section look beautiful!  mine was sloppy and crude.  i love what you did.  the tiller looks good!  i left my tips very stif as well, so much so to the point that hand shock was horrible.  i knew to leave them stiff, but they looked like a ramp from the belly of the bow. yours looks much smoother  ;D

you are well on your way to surpassing many, myself included.  keep up the good work, and enjoy the next three months when you get your stave ;)  with a start like that you can't go wrong  -did you folow sam harpers website?  that is how i built my red oak bow.

maybe small game but no deer i want to make a 50# osage one for hunting

Way to go David - First bow? you aint jivin are you? ;D. Wish my first attempt and eighth were as nice - just keep plowing forth and alll things come together.

Congrats on a fine bow, BUT let me tell you there is no cure for the illness your flirting with. It gets harder each day to think of things other than the next bow.
