pet food sinew

I found I can get dried deer and ostrich sinew in pet food stores. As I have trouble finding any other  source, I'm thinking of giving it a try. Those pieces are about 6 inches long.

I'm a bit concerned it might have been cooked before drying and therefore be spoiled.

Anyone knows something about it or has ever used something like this?

Here's a pic of a piece of ostrich sinew, as a whole and partly stripped down. Does that look usable?

Looks ok to me. It is probably just dried like any of us would do.

yeah let me tell ya. pets love it. my dogs have gotten my supply of sinew before.  my mothers dog was left in the garage one time and ate 6 bit strips of back sinew in a matter of minutes..lol  man i was mad/   it gets stored high and outreach nowadays

that sinew looks pretty good though.  should work just fine

LOL.... the dogs love the rawhide too!   Had a hard time putting some on my bow last night....

My favorite brand of pet treat sinew is moo brand achillies tendon treats. You can order a pound off the internet for 30 bucks somewhere. They smell a bit weird and you have to clean them pretty good, but other than that they work just fine. I even use the scraps for glue. The bows I have backed with them have turned out nice. But not all pet food sinew is equal. I order some backstraps that had been cooked to the point that they had turned to glass. I went to try to bend it and a piece broke and sliced my hand open nicely. I do believe this is why people say that some treats can cut a dogs mouth. I would never give a dog something like that.

Hey, thanks. I don't live in the US, so I probably wont't be able to get this specific brand. That is also the reason why I have no other good source, bow making is not a big thing here.

I'll try these for now. If they work, I got me stable supply at a fair price (20 bucks a pound). Glad to hear someone already managed to get good results with pet food tendon.

Sinew is sinew as long as it hasn't been cooked or baked too bad or too much crap added to it/flavored/smoked, etc. The best is to find a nice butcher to sell you em fresh, thats the best.
