When I shop or pretty much anything in my life I use a 3 strike rule. With that being said here is a camper shopping story. We went to the biggest local R.V. dealer in the area (2nd largest in the world) on the 7th. Saleman told us to start out front, mostly small campers then come find him and he would drive us around back to look at larger ones. Well he took us to the back told us the campers we may want are in 4 rows each having around 25 or 30 campers. He dropped us off and after making a smart remark to my wife about campers being like shoes available in different colors, he left us standing there on our own. So for the next couple of hours we looked in pretty much all of them. Now remember I said 2 hours and never saw him. So we hoofed it back up front, he saw us and came over and asked which one we want to buy? Dawn told him she wanted to also look at the used campers, he rolled his eyes and directed us to them. We looked at them, and then I went back and told him we where going home to think about all the ones we had seen and try to narrow down some what.
So Saturday we went again, we started by looking up at acouple of smaller around 21 footers. Went inside and he came up and asked if we had made up our minds? We told him we wanted to go back and look at 2 in the back. So he said something under his breath about bing busy, and paperwork then told us he would run us out. One thing I left out about Saturday is that it was raining pretty darn good. So out we went, he dropped us off at the first camper and told us where the second should be. He said he would give us around a half hour and come back and check on us. Well after about a hour we wish that we had not left our phones in the truck due to the rain. Everytime it would slack up we would move closer to the end wear we hoped we would be able to stop someone to get a ride or a message to get us picked up. We ended up soaked to the bone. I finally was able to get a guy on a fork truck to go back and get some one to get us.
Although we where kinda upset about what had just happened, we had it narrowed down to two campers. We asked if we could use a computer to compare the two and make up our minds, on that and just to check if we had seen all them. The salesman put us at his desk dripping wet as we were, and then disappeared again. Now I have heard of no haggle sales but no help sales suckes. After about 45 min. he shows back up with some other customers and tells us, he needs his desk that these people actually want to buy a camper.
For me that was strike 2 just for the day, even know he had more than that. I guess we wear kinda shocked and just stood up and moved away, while waiting we decided on one we wanted, so when he finish we told told him that they weren't the only ones that wanted to buy a camper. So we started the paperwork, I had already talked to him on Friday about using our old camper as a trade, He told me not to bring it on Sat. that it didn't need to be there to give us a appraisal. So he took the info on it walked over to another guy, and a minute later came back with his offer. $400.00 YES I SAID $400.00 to which I said I bet you would give Me $400.00. Then he started telling me that they had to make money, I told him forget the trade just write it up and continue, but he just kept running his mouth! SO STRIKE 3
Now I guess I'm going to go ahead and fix our $400.00 98 toy hauler and use one more year.
