belly wood

Ok, so i have some wood that i would like to use up and not let go to waste; can i make a bow out of hickory with less than perfect grain as long as its on the belly? i would back it with a good piece of hickory or boo, of course. I'm just worried it wouldn't hold up. What is your experience?

i guess it depends on how less than perfect it is, hickory is tough if it's not to bad back it and see what happens, the worst that could happen is it breaks, Bub

boo will hold up pretty good , as long as it's not  full of knots and crazy runoffs.

  I've found out the barnishing works exture good on hickory. I filed the back humbs flat lots of times. Just stain the bows back before you barnish or you'll have to paint.
