Second bow .... Tiller Check
« on: March 29, 2012, 12:51:26 am »
Hey just wanted to see what some of you think about the tiller.    57 In NtN  Pyramid style with bend in the handle.   Hemp twine backed maple once again.... Its actually the other half of the board my first bow came from.

Bottom limb looks pretty good. Top limb has a potential hinge going in the just outside of the halfway point.

Yeah, like Randman says.
Ease off the lower limb a tad to get the next few inches, and don't touch the top limb until you have eased off the lower.
taking some weight off the lower should reduce the load on that top limb and it may look better.
BTW you look to be gripping it a tad high? Or maybe it's just the pic.
Mind the last two inches of draw don't take a lot of wood removal, just break wind near the bow and it's there ::).

(If you do touch the top limb, keep away from the middle third)

So i went over to nativenooobowyers house today for a visit and to use his scale and tillering stick.  the 50 lb scale maxed out at 23ish and i was able to pull it back to 27.   tiller is looking better!

Yepp. Consider me an idiot... i leave my bow in the warm shed for two days, get her back to 3/4 draw.... then 2 inches bfore my lip.  she blows.....right at the "To Be Hinge."  trying to walk it off but thats not working o great so im just starting a new bow.... this one is from a maple stave i got myself!  think it will be fine......  just cant belive that happened .... even after i fixed up
the tiller!
