Bronze bow

Has anybody tried making a bronze age metal bow? I was doing a little research and it looks like there was in fact such a thing. Thought is might be a really cool project.

I have read a little about it also. It turns out they were around long before the naysayers will admit that the technology was around. I have considered it, but it will have to wait until I have a lot more time to dedicate to the project. I have researched and found where I can get the raw materials (old abandoned mines) to make it from scratch if I ever get the time.

Justin that sounds like an incredible project, please oh please take pictures.  How would such a bow be made anyways? Cast bronze in a mould, tiller with a file?

I guess I'd be afraid of it blowing up on full draw.  Maybe for for safety the first attempt should be backed with aluminum foil.

well just make sure its not this hard to tiller! this guy obviously needs to be focusing on getting this baby to bend more toward the tips!

I am not sure but so far my studies have led me to the term bronze bow to mean a exceptional bow and Iron bow to mean an exceptionally strong bow !
No examples of actual usable Bronze or Iron bows !
Kind of like the folks on here using sexy bow to mean curves and such !
But any way have fun whatever you try !

How about the wrought iron bows of India?  Those bad boys are anything but euphamistic, they are forged iron!

When I was working with John Strunk he told me about a steel bow that someone made a while back. He said it shot great until in blew at full draw and it killed someone standing nearby. They didn't make any more steel bows after that.  :-\

 A Swedish company called Seefab made steel bows. The bows of india were steel, not iron.
 People do sometimes make crossbow prods from automobile leaf sprngs.

That's what I was thinking of initially. The couple pictures I have seen of one was absolutely beautiful with the decorations and details in had.

I'd love to find one of those Indian bows, and it doesn;t even need all the lovely gold inlay detailing.  Just a shooter would please me.

Take that carp shooting with aluminum arrows during thunderstorms!
