Hey OO, it wasn't so much that I loved it as it was all I could get my hands on it at first I've gotten some better wood since then, but it seems I always give that stuff away to people that come to the shop and want to build a bow. Now I don't care so much...crooked or straight, thick rings or thin, it all makes bows and it's all good.
I've had mixed luck with the staves that twist around where a branch was. Sometimes the wood's so brittle it'll split there and blow up. Other times not. They look cool, but if I can I put those spots in the handle and make the bow fully center shot. I've got one almost done like that now. You have to be sure to wear an armguard though. And I agree Gus, this is a cool thread.
