Googling horn brings up some options.  I've been looking at some springbok.  Those ripples would look cool on a belly.

I assure you they are not broken lol. They didn't even splinter.

Gemsbock is pretty easy to come by. Just picked some up for my next protect. Hungarian Composite bow

Alright here's the shape of the bow

 


Got some horn boiled it in diluted hide glue and clamped it to the same form the bow was on.

 



Still braiding sinew............

Spool left today.  I poked something else inthe package also so don't pitch the wrappings too fast.

This is a great thread, Bryce.  Had you posted an example of the bow a while back?  Those are some wacky bends.

Boiling in just water creates the problem of cooking out the protein making the horn brittle. Boiling in deluged hide glue (i read) lowers the rate of protein Exchange. Monguls used to soak there horn in milk or diluted hide glue before steam bending.
