deer antler knocks?

has anyone ever tried deer antler knocks? if you have, how do they look? im wondering if i should just use a black cow horn instead for my ELB that im making.

If you google "Poor folks bows" a guy used them for a buildalong there.  I'll be using them soon on my ELB but not leaving them natural.  If you sand them they look like ivory.

I've heard that they are pretty pourus when the surface layer is sanded off...

   I used both mostly deer. Send me your email address and I 'll send you come pic's. of a osage bow I just put antler knocks on.
