03-20, got to knap today
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:30:41 pm »
Well, I busted up a lot of rock today.  Watched jackcrafty on yt yesterday, and feel like I learned something.  I did a lot of purcussion, made a lot of bifaces, broke a bunch of tips, spalled a big chunch of oregon obs, made and broke the biggest biface I've ever made, and got two small points out of it.  I did a lot of abrading and purcussion, kinda simutaniously.  I still need 1,950 lbs. of rock under my belt, but I feel pretty good. Anywho, here's some pics.  Replys are always great, thanks for lookin, dpgratz

p.s. my wife gave me OK to make the pit next to the porch...anything to get them obs. chips off the porch.  ;D

Thanks Bubby...Tower..preciate it.

Bob, the bopper was a gift from a friends mom. she got it @ the state fair.  it's the middle size I hear.  seems to work pretty good, I'm just starting to figure out how to use it.

Gus, thanks. I got the pit started while my 7yrold dug around my debrie pile picking up and shaping flakes.  ;D ;D

Looking good sir!

Bet you worked up a good sweat today! First pic looks like some decent Monroe chert from the creek. You are making good progress Derik!

Nice points!!  Congrats on the pit, I need to do the same but Im renting at the moment and I dont think the landlord would approve.  I would really love to have a coverd area to knap so that I could knap in the rain.

Thanks Bevan and Jimbob.

Tracy, It did gt warm, maybe a little sweat, but more blood ran than anything.  When I drove that long flake in the first pic it ran right into my ring finger and nearly did me in for the day.  i.e. the electrical tape in one of the other pics.  ;D dpgratz

Thanks for the replys!!
