Parallel vs Tapered?

Here is a question for you arrow smiths that I would like an answer too. We all know how to measure spine of a parallel wood shaft. How is the spine measured and from what part of the wood shaft on a nock end tapered wood shaft? Let's just say a 14" taper? And would a full length tapered shaft be measured the same way as a parallel?

I'm not an arrow smith but find with my barrel tapered I need to go 5# heavier spine than with parallel. Spine is still measured from the stiff side center of the shaft. The barrel are tapered 10" from each end 23/64 to 5/16. If you like high FOC then taper the nock end only.

I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Spine is still measured the same way - 2 pounds at 26 or 28 inches. 

That said, I usually spine mine prior to tapering - and then never go back and re-spine them.  My way may not be yours.

A spine tester has 26" supports but the results are extrapolated to 28". Jawge
