Heat Treatment Question

I was around Austin last week and ended up with home Ft Hood, Edwards Plateau and Perdanales. The Perdanales seems to work well w/o heat, but is it better with treatment? What about the Ft Hood and Edwards Plateau. Haven't worked and of this before, so any help is appreciated.

Some pedernales dosent need heat, but most TX rock can be tamed with a turkey roaster. About 500 deg is all that is needed. You will love the results. Be sure to check the rock first.not all TX rock needs heat. Making a point out of raw stone you gathered is an addicting rush!

Tower pretty much summed it up! Most all tx rocks will improve with heat and some don't need it especially those around Georgetown..

All the Texas rock that I've heated turned out well except for the darker stuff.  The best Texas chert for heat treating is light colored and dull, IMO.

Spall everything first before heat treating.  That way you'll know if it's workable in its raw state or if it has cracks.  Cracks get worse with heat.
