Sinew Backed Cedar......re-visited
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:23:06 pm »
OK he is my response to the latest ERC explosion. This time I used Primarily sapwood. even though the sapwood isn't nearly as pretty, it performs way better...just much tougher overall. and sinew backed it. Got the sinew really tight and straight.  The heartwood is at least present in the grip and a little bit of working limb.  Made for a real interesting looking bow.  Seems to me the point of ERC is  to make a really pretty bow, but unfortunately the pretty part is brittle. so this one is build on performance and boy was i surprised. This bow really slams an arrow. every bit as hard as Osage.  really fast bow!  its 66" long and 63# @ 26".   so this is my "performance" cedar bow and i will build another sinew back outa heartwood like my long one in BOM but next time a little shorter to accommodate my 25" draw.  That heart wood is gorgeous, but the sapwood is the "good" stuff   so Cedar is definitely a catch 22. has about 75 shots or so through it today. my arm is really tired now so it was time to quit and take pics. seems plenty stable. every shot, I get more confidence in it. Tiller is a little stiff in the fades but I was a lil gun shy after the last fade blow up..lol  thanks fer lookin at it- Ryan

Are you kidding?  That thing looks awesome.  I love how the heartwood fades out from the grip.  That's a really nice bow.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Great looking bow. What is the mass weight? just wondering

Sure is pretty. Hope this one holds tight for you. That ERC stuff scares me!

BTW I never liked the look of sinew, so now that I have to use it on some I am really meticulous about it being perfect..lol  I will put more time into laying the sinew than building the entire bow

Never seen a sinew job like that. looks like you put one thread down at a time. I agree. The sapwood is easier

What a beautiful bow!  The heartwood looks like two flames moving out into the sapwood.  Great tiller as usual.  I dig it.

Good Lord, that bow is nothing but a streak of sexy!
