Walnut and osage bbo...(pics)
« on: August 17, 2007, 06:58:03 pm »
Haven't had that much time to work on bows lately, but I managed to finish this one up the other day. She's a osage and walnut tri lam. I cut down the trees and made the boards that this bow is made from myself using a jointer. Two layers of osage make up the limbs with a raw bamboo back. Osage and walnut handle/power lams; walnut underlays; and osage, walnut, and horn tip overlays. I threw on some Western diamondback skins to dress it up a little more. Pulls 50 pounds at 28 inches.

Smooth graceful lines and a striking color combonation. That is one of the prettiest bows I have ever seen.

Dan, Nice wood combo and very nice bow.The tip underlays are cool. I guess its to keep the tips stiff.
How bout a full draw. ;)    Pat

dan!  -  this is a really  g o o d  l o o k i n g  bow and the profile looks like she's quite fast, too! i especiallly like the tips, over- and underlays! the underlays look long; didn't that cause problems like ends rolling up or something? i like underlays a lot, but i'm allways a bit scared of using them. i did underlays once with plumwood on a very light ashbow; in that case the plum was the harder wood. that worked just fine. (see below)
how long is thisone??

Nice job Dan! I am a big fan of using walnut as accents in my bamboo backed bows. Mainly because I have a boatload and it looks real nice with osage. Have you tried walnut as a belly wood yet? Not the greatest belly wood but i have made a few that turned out pretty darn good.

Some folks have all the talent. Beautiful bow/Great lines. With a full draw image we can look at it for Backed Bow of the Month for August.
