yew bow length
« on: February 25, 2012, 10:47:56 pm »
Thinking about building myself a yew bow. My standard style of bow, rigid handle. I would like it to be un-backed.  about 1\4"  or 3\8" of sapwood and then the rest heart of course. I want it in the mid 60#s at my  short 25 or 25 1\2" draw length.  how short of an unbacked yew bow can I get away with.  I can build osage bows 60" long and 25" draw all day long, but I dont know what I can get away with with yew..    any thoughts.????    again, un-backed, 65ish pounds at 25"  how long?  I'd be super happy with 61" long but I coul dbe very happy iwth 62 or 64.            66" just seems so long to me after shooting 61" on a regular basis.

Good yew will do it no problem at 60 inches. Make your rigid handle as short of non bending as possible and you will be well within the range for a 25" draw.
