string making question
« on: February 25, 2012, 10:28:56 pm »
I'm ordering some fast flight string material online. I have found some places that sell black spools only that are pretty cheap. To get a second spool of a different color from another site will add alot to the cost. So here's my question... When making a flemish loop, do you really need two different colors or can I do it just as easily with only black. From the couple of strings that I made with two colors i can imagine that it is easier to see what you're doing with contrasting colors but if I could just order a black spool and get away with that, I'd save alot of money and earn some brownie points with the wifey. Thanks in advance for your input.

You can do it on 1 color. No problem.
I make mine with 3 lays, 2 are 1 color, 1 a contrasting color.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Thanks Bevan. I thought as much but haven't made to many flemish loops so I thought I'd double check. Now to relearn how to twist one... ::)

It will be easier this way. When you make your loop, you do not have to worry which lay(s) you are blending.
