B-50 as cable backing?
« on: February 23, 2012, 08:05:57 pm »
Is there any reason that I can't use B-50 bowstring as a cable backing? The only thing I can think of is that it might not be stretchy enough. I think that would have the potential for some cool looking cable backs with the different colour combo's available.

Polyester apparently comes closest to sinew in its ability to stretch and recover. B-50 is polyester.

Well then it might be worth a shot. I'll need to keep that in mind for a future project.

I tried that once. It worked great until I tightened it up a little too much...then I broke it, the bow that is :o :'(

As a cable, no need to de-wax.

I've made LOTS of cable bows there my favorite. I've used nylon, polytwine, silk all that biz but I never even thought about b-50 lol. Nothing comes close to sinew cable though...magical.
Let me know how it turns out I'm very intrigued.
