Little Hickory Bow
« on: February 20, 2012, 04:55:37 pm »
Heres a few pics of a hickory bow I finished up a couple of weeks ago for a friend of mine. He wanted a shorter bow to hunt with for next year. Its 59" long and pulls 50# at 28". I heat-treated the belly and reflexed the outer limbs a little bit to try to keep stringfollow to a minimum. After shooting it in it still holds about 3/4" of reflex. 1.5" wide at fades to 1.25" midlimb and then straight taper to 1/2" nocks. Thanks for lookin.

I shellaced the back of this stave when I cut it last spring and I only sanded it off the high spots on the back and it turned out with kind of a camo look to it.

Love that handle. Is that a brushed on stain on the back?

I wish I could turn hickory into something like that.  Dang humidity  >:(

That is a very cool bow.  I'm sure your friend will enjoy it.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

Gary, Its not stain its just clear shellac that I put on the back a long time ago to seal it.

Osage Outlaw, the humidity can get pretty high around here too, and when it does I dont shoot any of my hickory bows. When I wasnt working on it, I kept this bow in a room where the rh was around 35-40% to keep the mc down around 7-8%.
