Need some elm ideas.pic heavy
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:18:28 pm »
Here is a belly split off of some elm, 68 1/2'' long 2'' wide. Has a pretty good sized lump in one side about mid limb. I worked a ring and layed it out 2'' wide tapering to 1/2'' in the last 6''. This is my rough lay out probably end up 1 1/2'' to 1 5/8'' wide. Looking to get 50 to 60lbs at 28'' to 29''. Have never worked with elm before, is this a good lay out or what should I change? Possible trade bow. Thanks, Eric.

She came out a little narrower than I would have liked, 1 3/8''. Might still make it though we will see. So here is some more pics and a couple of the piggy back sister. Sealed up the back and put up to dry some more, I cut and split in August, don't feel quite dry yet. Don't mind the mess, gets messy when there's bows to be made.
