My best point yet!
« on: February 12, 2012, 05:13:02 pm »
I bought a plastic cast of an Andice from lithics casting labs the other day. It's on the right side in the pics. I thought it might help me better replicate this style of point. So I rummaged through the knappin pit at Twin Oaks and found a couple small pieces of TX material that cowboy had left us. The first thing I noticed about the cast of the artifact is that is was REAL thin... :o  9:1 to be exact. The other thing that I knew I had to do was widen my notches out to get that tear drop shape goin... ::)  After hafting one I can see why this helps  ;)  Anyway, it was so cold my feet went numb makin this one but I think it turned out pretty darn good! Thought Id share it with y'all. Thanks fer lookin!  :) :) :)

Man those are fantastic Will! Never tried notches that long, probably break :). Looking at the function of this point type, it seems like the ears would almost always break off on impact with the main portion of the point still hafted in place. Beautiful points again!

That is unreal how close you got that point! I think you got it now.  Were these knifes, arrowheads or spear points?

Thanks you guys!
Paul- thanks man ;) I hear ya, I didn't want to take it THAT far :) I really liked the narrower entry.
John- This type artifact is mostly a knife but there are some examples of them being used as projectile points. Look back at a few of my earlier posts on Andice points and you'll see more what I'm talkin bout. And yeah that's an 8d copper nail, been using it alot lately for punching.
