New Bow and Knife For Son
« on: February 12, 2012, 11:40:06 pm »
Made a lil Hickory flatbow for my 4 yr son.  He's pretty proud of it and shoots it well too.  Thought I'd share....proud Daddy I guess.   :)  Wouldn't know the specs.

Look at the finish.  LOL...dropped his front arm a little too much though. ;D

We also made a little knife for him too.  Really, the last thing he needs is a knife, but I knapped it out and he came up with the idea of putting it on a piece of river cane we had lying around....I was very proud of his idea.

Thanks for looking.

Great job, Dad. He looks like another future bowyer!!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

what a great gift for a son,
its great that the little guy is raised around men making things.
Many dads are way too busy getting fat on the couch to be bothered .
I made a hickory bow very similar, for my grandson last year ,but he was a little too young and dangerous!
but hopefully when he comes visiting in March we'll be able to shoot together.
Kids remember this stuff their whole lives.

I made wooden knives, daggers, and swords  for my son and daughter ,from various hardwoods and they still survive today,
some a little worse for wear from battle scars, but their imaginations were sharpened intensely, they played in the woods
and had no idea what a video game was. Their life was a lot better for it.
when i'm working on things my ancestors worked, singing the songs my ancestors sang, dancing the same dances, speaking the same language, only then  I feel connected to the land, THIS land, where my ancestors walked for thousands of years...

Totally agree.  When I was about 6 or 7, my dad gave me a BB gun and a hatchet, showed me how to use them and be safe, then I was on my own.  My, how times have changed.  They'd take my Dad to jail now for neglect.
