Sharpening a spokeshave

My spokeshave needs sharpened, and I have seen guys on youtube using sandpaper to sharpen their blades. Is the sandpaper method better than using a stone? I already have both, so I'm just wondering which way to go.

Either works fine as long as you have a hard flat surface for the emory cloth(not sand paper).
