bow backing ?

While just going through the different pages of the forum I noticed some on using carp skin ....which brings the ? can you use allagar skin it is a pretty skin and strong I know the Chouchatta Indians used the scales, jaws, & bones but I do not remember if they used the skins

Carp and snake are thin, and lite...not so shureabout gator ...but gar works I've been told

I think gator is too thick to be a practical backing. Mullet made a gator skin handle wrap for the Tom B Memorial Bow a few years ago.

 I'm not sure what you are talking about. Alligator gar is way too thick for backing and about the only part of a Gator thin enough is the belly hide and IMO it is to thick for a bow backing. It is real nice for a hand grip, though. NA's did use the scales from Alligator Gars for points.
