chasing a ring on hickory

i just made a hickory bow, and since it was a belly split, i couldn't just remove the bark and use that, so i tried to follow a ring and found it almost impossible,i got it close to one ring on the back with only a few run offs, is this fine? i ave shot it a good amount and it seems to be working fine

If your having trouble chasing a ring can you back it with anything to be on the safe side?

Keep shooting it !
Keep track of shots thru it and report back when it breaks !
I suspect you did a good job on it!
If so it will still be shooting after I have gone !

I can't see it and don't know the angle of run off...but I bet its fine....hickory is a different beast than osage. If you feel squimish when pulling and shooting it then just slap some rawhide or silk on it for the added peace of mind

I don't have a lot of experience with hickory, but Tim Baker makes a big point about hickory being very forgiving of ring violations.  My guess is that you're going to be fine.    Ron

The first hick bow I ever made has 3 ring violations on the back of one limb and 5 on the other, it's 15 years old and still shoots. Ronnie
