Jon that is a very nice piece of work.

You mentioned saplings... was this bow out of one? If you've the time a detail or two would be appreciated.

I have some small trees debarked and glued and have never tried stave bows. Any tricks or pitfalls I should worry about?

        yes this was a sapling bow. It was a small tree about 3- 3 1/2" in diameter. Saplings are an easy jumpstart on a bow so to speak. They are easier to harvest, take little time to dry and sometimes you don't even need to split them, just pick the best side for the back of the bow and rough it out. As far as pitfalls go, sometimes it is good to clamp them to something as they dry to prevent warping

When I first saw the header I thought "Why would you sinew back a hickory bow?"  But, with 60 pounds coming out of a 52" bow, it makes perfect sense.  That sucker looks nice!  I bet it shoots hard too.  I like it a lot.

BORING!  Just a plain, straight stick that bends flawlessly. 

There is something inherently amazing to me when one of these bows is tillered so well.  I rarely can get such a perfect arc on these kind of simple bows, and lord knows there is no character to hide behind or blame it on!  This bow will be loved by the hunter and feared by the game for years to come.
