Hi all, a while ago I posted a question (can I use dead standing walnut /red elm) well I tried walnut first...the bark was mostly missing and the sap wood was punkey and the first few growth rings were littered with bug holes...well I got under all that to some solid wood and bam!
This one is 68" ntn4" handle 3"fades 2"wide and tapers to 1/2" knocks 16.5"from the tips.
it was a good weight but murphey and his stupid law(not my mess up ;) ) happens
Bringing it down to a lesser draw weight than I had plans, but the wood is beautiful and it held together so the test was a success! I will post pics as I get them from photobucket. Thanks for any criticism.

The outside pics were taken today it was cool (6°f)I worked it 40 times after being strung for30min.to see if the temp affected it.finaly the $ shot ,the tiller is a bit off on the top limb

Dead standing red elm is my next project after I finish my current heat tempered white oak.

Beautiful bow!!  Love that grain pattern on the fades.  If that tiller is off, it isn't far off.  I wouldn't take off the finish to change it if it were mine.  Good work!  That one qualifies as bow art in my book.

Very well done! Trying to convince a friend of mine his walnut needs pruned.... ;D How big in diameter was the original log? Grain pattern looks great.

That is stunning!  I can't imagine attaining that level of skill.   I almost quit trying to make my own bow after I viewed the post about the five year old making a bow, while I am having so much difficulty.  But you have inspired me to endevour on.  Beautiful!

Dazv. I don't know for shure but before final sanding I was 38@26 I plan on giving it a final weigh later today I will post the #

38 lbs is still a good shooter in my books, good luck with that elm! Elm in the UK gets absolutely covered in bug holes that can go all the through the stave as soon as it dies, so there is no way i could use dead standing elm in the UK.
