Dallas Osage Cutting (more pics added)

I'm planning another osage wood cutting outing in the next month or so while the sap is down as much as it will be here in Texas.  Cipriano and Gus cut with me last time and we'll go back to that same place which is near McKinney.  In addition to reasonably straight osage, there's ash juniper, hackberry, pecan and cedar elm on the property.  Right now I'm thinking of doing it on either the 1st, 3rd or 4th Saturday in February (I tentatively have a hog hunt planned for the 2nd Saturday).  As always, we'll start with breakfast at my place, biscuits and sausage gravy, then head north and cut wood until we're wiped (which doesn't take long for me).  I have my trailer home to bring a load back to my place (though I still don't have a truck to tow it with...but hope to by then).  Gus, I have my chain saw running better now.   Here is the thread from the last cutting: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,26710.0.html we only had enough energy to cut the first clump. It would be worth the trip from South Dakota just for the biscuits and gravy...or just for the company....but when you throw in cutting bow wood it is just over-the-top.  Wish I could be there, guys!

I wanna shoot a Tejano hog  and make posole from his shoulders, Chipotle rubbed Canadien bacon from his backstraps, and chorizo from the scraps!!!  I won't even speak of what will happen to the ribs.   >:D

That was a Wonderful Trip, and beautiful place that your friend has with Beautifully Straight Trees!

Be happy to pull the trailer if your replacement Pony is not in place by then.

I'd love to come with you guys!  ?Unfortunately?(doesn't really fit here), I will have a 1-4 week old baby depending on when she feels like making her appearance.

(And i think if I went I just might find my pillow out back with the puppies when I got home...)

Sounds good Gus.  No truck yet so I may take you up on that.  I talked to Thomas yesterday and he's very anxious to get that osage clump back by his ballfield cut down and hauled out.  Don't remember if you went back there and looked at it when you were there.

I understand Jeremiah.  I'll bring home a couple logs and once you get a pass you can come and split them at my place.

Yes, these are unusually straight trees.  Thomas' yard was a very thick woods when he bought it.  It caused the trees to all be very straight, no matter the species. 

I'm thinking the first weekend in Feb if that works for everybody and the weather cooperates.

The first weekend in February sounds good to me.

Come on down fish, it's worth it just for the biscuits and gravy.  The osage is just icing.

OK Gus, lets settle on Feb4 as our plan day.  If the weather's cruddy we'll use Feb18 as our rain date.   That OK with you Cipriano?
