First points of 2012
« on: January 01, 2012, 06:18:47 pm »
Woke up early this morning and tried to get a point done before church.  It was a step fight all the way, especially on the side of the point that was partly cortex.  Had it just about done, tried to take 1 last notching flake...

O well, I grabbed another spall after lunch and chipped out this.  It should've been a little longer, but I snapped off one end real early.  It's pretty wide, but still only weighs 95 grains.

Had a couple steps I never got out on that one.  Both notches blew out to one side.  One up and one down so I had to widen them both.  Still, a nice way to start the new year.

Happy new year all.

Thanks guys.  Will,  I'm betting your point(s) are awesome.   :)

I tried to make a third point, but ran out of time before I finished.  Had it just about done and then did a bad step.  Seems to be a theme today. ::)

I finished a third point last night but didn't get it posted before heading to bed.  Notching continues to be my nemesis.  I had a really good thin one going on one side but blew out the other side pretty early.  Not paying attention after that i stalled the good notch.  I may take a thin spall and just practice notching for awhile today.  The only good thing about this point is that it was very narrow with a flat side and then a ridge down the other that was about an inch thick.  I was very pleased to get something out of it.
