Is bamboo backed walnut a good combo? or hickory backed walnut?

I know it! My father-in-law has two nice pieces and I can have them. I just have never worked with walnut and don"t know how it is in compression.

One of my first bows was a canvas backed black walnut. sweet shooter (until a let a long arm gorilla pull it) :'(

Bamboo backed walnut will probably develop frets or chrysals because the bamboo will overpower the walnut. I once did a maple backed walnut and it ended up with frets and such, now bamboo is a little stronger so the same will probably happen in that case. Maybe someone who has actually tried it can chime in.

bamboo backed walnut worked for me ...
try to get the bamboo as thin as possible and leave the walnut belly wider than the boo to get a trapezoid cross-section

Walnut can chrysal fairly easily when hard backed.  I would go with Ash or Hickory and keep the backing thin.

Well hickory is very accessible for me so maybe I'lltry a thin hickory backing. Should be a good color combo.
