What grit belt would you recommend for rough tillering?

I like 50-80. Belts are cheap so buy plenty of different ones Ryan.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

What about one of the little handheld units mounted on a bench to make it sturdy.   I see they come in 10 amp motors which should have lots of juice to get the job done.

I am trying to decide between two right now,  one is the big 6x48 for 300 bucks or the little unit for a hundred.   Same amp motors.

input on powerful handheld units would be appreciated,

cheers,

Presumably 6x48 is inches? (Not some metric nonsense... the 12mm bandsaw I got was dissapointing  ;))

Raven i have tried the handheld type and yes it works..but it is very easy to get dips due to the small contactsurface,it also is easy to get burns as the belt is short and clog up fast.
If you have the space and the founds go for a bigger one.

Check your local craigslist.  I have seen some great deals on some 6x48 sanders.  I just don't have the room for one of those in my shop.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left
