1/4" tip width?
« on: February 08, 2012, 12:14:45 pm »
is 1/4" width tips on a kids bow too narrow? will it be a pain to cut string nocks?
Also if i have a ring violation on one limb and not the other, do I have to chase the ring all the way from tip to tip or just the limb thats violated?
the bow will not bend in the handle.
thanks

1/4 should be fine on a kids bow with a low number strand string, No you don't have to chase the whole thing if you don't want, just the limb violated. :)

If its fine on a strong hunting weight osage bow of mine it'll be fine for a kids bow  ;)...you'll have to glue an overlay on it.

Not if you leave the first 4 inchs stiff if the volation if where it dos'nt been it will be ok.
I make all my tips 3/8 to a 1/4. I cut the string groves in while it 1/2 inch and then work it down to where I want it. YOU CANT CUT YOUR NOCKS DOWN TO 1/4 INCH THEN CUT YOUR STRING GROVES IN. The amount of wood between the groves would be to narrow.

1/4" tips are great for any bow. Its much easier to have the string rest on an overlay of some sort instead of cutting in string grooves at that width. Although I did make a a 50# bow with 1/4" tips and pin nocks.
