Elk hoofs?

I just got 4 elk legs for the sinew and was thinking about using the hoof for overlays or something :-\ just dont want to waste them. Has anyone here used them? What would be the best way to deal with them as far as cleaning them out for use? any other ideas on what to use them for? Thanks

I took some deer hooves and boiled them out,seperated them,let them dry good and they made a fine string keeper. I drilled a little hole and attached a rubber band to a light wire hook and it works great.Looks cool to!
