Arrow spine and length?
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:33:31 pm »
Its been a while since I read this and I seem to have forgotten the general rule, so I was hoping someone could remind me.
I have a shaft that is spined for 50# and is 28". If I shorten the shaft 1", how much in poundage does that increase the stiffness?

And while I'm at it another similar question as it relates to piking a bow to increase draw weight. Generally, how many pounds do you gain per inch of length removed?

Thank guys    Danny

I don't know about piking, but you'll gain 5# for each inch removed from an arrow and decrease spine by #5 for each inch longer than 28".

You can also add spine weight or subtract spine weight with lighter or heavier head weights. 125gr is the standard. The heavier the head the lighter the effective spine weight is and vice versa.

Thank guys.

I found Pats answer on another thread. Should have let ya'all know I already found the answer.
I suppose I can find out the answer on the other question next time I need to pike a bow to gain weight      Danny

Probably 3# to 5# per inch for piking.
