Blackhawk, Thank you. Yes the bottom limb is the one with more heart wood. It is naturally strong because of more heart and yes, It is the base of the branch closest to the tree trunk. The heart wood is always closer to the top side of a branch and the wood has grown in constant tension so the rings are tighter and stronger on the top of the branch.
