I've heard sulfur shelf mushrooms called chicken of the woods around here, but I didn't think those looked like them.  I see they came off a tree, but they looked a little white.  When I collect sulfur shelf, I cut the tender edge off and it will continue growing back several times.  The white woody parts give me the  :o :-[

Chicken of the woods

It is Chicken of the Woods ,We cubed it up and sauted it in butter and froze it,we had two gallon and if a person didn't know , a lot of people would'nt know it from fried chicken. We put it in soup instead of mushrooms. We have a little dog that loves fried chicken and she knew the difference she wouldn't eat it ,but the hunting dog did.
