Friends,
Shot a 4x4 buck this morning. 12 yd shot, Tusker broadhead, right behind front leg-saw him go down in seconds after running 60 yds. Yee haw. Rolled him over to gut him and found a nasty wound on his belly inside his hind leg. Skin over ham was gone and muscle was raw and deteriorating. Old and new gut contents smeared over wound.
I had a hunter walk by that stand a couple weeks ago that had hit a buck. He was not trailing the deer but looking. He refused help in recovery, saying he would come back in a few hours and try to find him.
This buck this morning came in to a grunt call and a few clacks of a rattle bag. When he came in he was looking for the deer he had heard.
Game and Fish people recommended that the meat not be consumed.
Good hunt-disappointed because we like our venison.
