White hooves
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:37:51 pm »
I picked up a  bunch of legs from the local processor and while cutting the sinew out, I noticed on two of them, the hooves were mostly white.  I have never seen this before.  The rest of the leg looked normal.  Didn't know if this was rare.  Has anyone else seen this?

I wonder if the deer was piebald. Looks like the legs had some spoches of white on them too.

How do you do that???   I threw them in the woods by my house.  I could go get them tomorrow.

I have seen a few like that Clint. None were piebald deer, they just had white in their hooves like your pic. Makes them look like hog hooves almost! Kind of freaky.

to remove the hooves dip them in boiling water and count to about 30, then grab the hoof with pliers and twist the slightest bit and they'll pop right off. hot water loosens the bond between hoof and bone.

It looks like the fur is whiter comin up off of the toes.  Looks to be some "piebald" in it
