Hi All,
Was wondering if Black Locust would make a good backing?? if so what types of wood would make a good combo? And any design suggestions? Thanks, Chuck

I've never heard of anyone using it for backings but the thought has crossed my mind. BL is very strong in tension and if you could find some straight wood to make strips from then I wouldn't hesitate to try it. I would tend to try plain sawn backings if possible though.

This is a 100% guess Chuck. I think BL on maple or poplar wood make a decent combo. Im just thinking of each woods qualitys.

I never backed a bow with wood. But if I were to use BL I would use heartwood and not sapwood as the backing. Jawge
