Fading Away
« on: October 30, 2011, 01:28:24 am »
Gents,

I'm building both "Perfect Bows" from TBB1 just to see how they compare. The wood is from the same board. It's a little experiment.

I'm laying out the rigid handle bow and it says the 1 1/4" wide handle abruptly goes to 2". Question: How long should these fades be from the end of the 4" handle to the widest part? 2"? 3"? I'm using red oak. It's 3/4" thick so I'm going to need a riser glued on. What considerations other than glue line do I have when determining the length of fades? My total bow length is 67" and I'm shooting for 50#mininum.

Thanks.

Todd

I generally make fades 1 1/2" to 2".
