Eastern Hophornbeam Flatbow
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:59:46 pm »
This will be the last one for a while, sorry about hitting all these at the same time, but I better post while I can.I'll try not to hawg the board next time. This is an Eastern Hophornbeam flatbow that I built along with a neighbor, and friend, that has let us hunt his property for the last 20 years or so.We cut the tree,(4 1/2" diameter), in the spring of 2011,I roughed it out, formed it green for a little over a month, then put it up in the rafters in my haybarn this summer. It is heat-treated,has osage tip overlays, and a osage arrow rest. 66'' tip to tip,64 1/2 nock to nock.50#@26".walnut stain with a cane grip. God Bless

I would like to say that I think it's not quite perfect... But I think I would be wrong... :-\

Very nice shape on that bow. And with talent like that, post away!

Wow Pete!  Another great bow.  That sounds like a nice big tree.  Hope you got lots of good bow wood from it.  Don't apologize.  Keep em coming ;D

What do you finish with Pete? It looks very thick, I like that.

Thanks fella's. Cipriano, that is a 4 1/2 Inch tree, not 4 1/2 feet. :)     Pearl Drums,I think that one took 9 coats of Tru-oil,but it's really not thick, must be the   picture. It is,however 4 coats of Spar varnish on the cane handle.     Erik, the only 2 significant knots in the stave I located in the handle, and I was'nt too sure how it would look covering it with cane.I gave my neighbor his choice of grip, and I think he chose well. Thanks again y'all. God Bless
