Tip Overlay Questions
« on: October 20, 2011, 05:49:21 pm »
Never done tip overlays so figured to save myself some trouble by asking questions.

What is a good ratio of glued surface to extended tip? For instance if the overlay goes past the bow tip an inch how long should it be in glue-up down the back? And just how far can the overlay be extended past the bow tip? I will be using deer antler for the overlay. If I make pin nocks out of it what should the diameter be for a 50# bow?
And are side nocks feasible/practical with this kind of setup?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

When i do my tip overlays, I extend the overlay about 1/2 inch past the bow tip, then taper the wood to make a smooth transition, Then I cut my nock into both the overlay and the wood underneath, so there is plenty of strength. Overall length of my overlays is usually around 1.5-2 "...
