Finally Finished my 2nd bow
« on: October 15, 2011, 11:18:23 am »
Well, I got motivated and pulled a white oak board bow I started 2 years ago out of the corner and went to work on it.
I had a dip in the grain rip out of the belly about 9" from one tip (hinge resulted) and I figured it was fire wood instead of the 50# hunting bow intended. I put it in the corner in the garage and forgot about it until a couple weeks ago. l picked it up and decided to go to work on it and see where it took me.
Couldn't believe it finished 50# @ 25"(my draw). I did have to patch a couple of small areas using Tight Bond 3 and sawdust. So far so good.
64"OAL
1.25" wide @ handle
.75" @ tips
Burlap backed

100 arrows through her and all is well!! I think she'll hunt.

Thanks to JAWGE for all his advice!!

Who put the dip in the dip dip dip dip?  Sorry, I grew up in the 50's and 60's and I liked the Platters. Tiller looks great. Jawge

I see this is your second bow and you did great. Remember the idea with boards is to choose straight grained stock with no dip da dips. :) Jawge

Thanks for the good words guys. Yes Jawge, I hope I have learned to listen to the stave a little better. Del you are right that shot is to show the hinge showing up on the right limb.

Full draw bend looks great!  I also like the burlap backing.  Really unique, in a cool way.

Looks Great!  that bottom pic kinda made me cringe a little... Glad to see ya got that hinge out.. Tiller looks perfect in the full draw shot!  Nice work and way to stick with it... It's the bumps along the way that make a better bowyer so don't give up on any bow you are working on even if it breaks along the way it can still teach you something...  :)

Thanks everyone.
Wirwicki, I used burlap on the 1st bow that I made for my daughter. I really liked the way it looked and decided to give it another try on this one. Josh, Jawge told me to stick it out and learn from the results also. Wise words from you both. I learned a lot from this one and instead of warming up to a flaming stick, I am spending time in my ground blind with a great bow!!

Thanks to all for sharing your vast bowyer's knowledge and encouragement! Long live Primitive Archers!!
