Five years ago (it doesn't seem like it) I helped my middle son and his friend make their own bows. They made a fine job of their silk backed ash flatbows. They shot with me for a while and then school and life meant they wanted to do other things.
This weekend my son's friend came back with a Hickory backed Yellow Balau bow made from wood I gave him back then. With a very little bit of advice from me he finished it off on my tiller. A fine little bow, 45lbs at about 29 inches. Now he and my son are talking about taking up archery again and maybe making more bows.
It's good to feel that maybe, without really trying the love of archery and bow making is passed on.
