Noel , its white pine ,. cutting out wasnt too bad but the rounding and sanding was boring after about 20.
thanks Pat , im going to have fun with them ill be firing the cannons during the reenactment ,M70's dropped into pvc pipe cannons ought to sound nice, a lil baby powder in there to look like smoke when the firecracker goes off

noel its not often done but some of our southern yellow pine has a high sg and would make a serviceable bow . if memory serves me slash which is common here has a 66 sg. either way ive got too much excellent bow wood to contend with the sap of pine . could be right about the crossbow ...but your gonna have to build it im tied up and not smart enought to design the trigger anyway

your lucky then, i think all the pine up here is too soft, but i actually am planning a crossbow, and those have given me another choice on the handle design, ;D
thanks

Wow Ken, what a project. I need your son in my class ;)

Post pics when they do the charge. Those students won't ever forget that lesson. Awesome thing for you to do.

Very cool! That was very kind of you to volunteer to do, will each kid get one after the charge? Will the school keep them?

thaks guys , this is the stuff that makes you feel good after.
all the props will be kept by the teacher , this school keeps the kids and teachers together for two years so this teacher wil pick up my youngest son next year and teach him in the 4th and 5th grade. so she will be doing the reenactment with her 5th graders every other year.
ill post the cannons later this week.
