Tightbond 2/3 to glue on horn nocks?
« on: September 24, 2011, 01:59:57 am »
I have heard some people say this works. Sounds funner than getting super glue all over my horn nocks. I have also heard that under normal use, horn nocks do not usually come off. Anybody know?

I've used TB glues for horn nocks and tip overlays.

I like the gorilla thick super glue.  I use a pair of those craft size quick grip style clamps.  It dries faster and is crystal clear and sands nicely.  TB glues can be a little gummy for a while if you are feathering the seams.

I always use industrial superglue mainly because it's dry enough within 30mins. I wouldn't fancy waiting for TB to cure! If you mean horn nocks like on a ELB where you are fitting the cones together then it can be tricky to clamp them with a glue that doesn't have any intial grab.

I use a good 10 minute epoxy, for ELB conical type nocks and I just stand the bow up resting down onto the nock.
Gravity keeps it firmly in place.

For me it depends on the surface finish of what I am gluing up. If it mates well go with super glue and if not TBII.

I have also always used super glue (the gel kind), but I am getting tired of it. The biggest problem is if the nocks get glued on crooked. I also do not have very much faith in super glue for the long term. It always fails on me eventually when gluing things like field points, even though they do take a good beating obviously, and I have heard people say they have had failures when trying to use it for tip overlays.
